Small moments + Strategy = BIG outcomes! The possibilities are endless! In this session, participants will learn how to turn small moments into BIG outcomes. By recognizing and seizing opportunities for networking in everyday conversations, educators can begin to use local resources to supplement their programs, enhance opportunities for their students, and further develop South Carolina’s future teachers! Participants will hear how the journey from public schools to the collegiate level aided in Dr. Little’s ability to build relationships, bringing private and public schools together to “grow SC’s own” teachers. Session attendees will have the opportunity to share strategies and begin to grow their own "network of possibilities.”

A "How To" Guide for Teachers of College Bound Students

In this session, teachers and advisors will be guided in creating an outline for students who are in the college application process and interested in joining the teaching profession. As a former college admissions officer and current school counselor, the presenter will take attendees on a fruitful journey from the beginning (college visits and applications) to the end (making a decision and securing scholarships).

In this fun and engaging session on murder, mystery, and mayhem, participants will collaborate and practice problem-solving skills to solve a classic mystery of “Whodunnit?” Participants will also take a look at examples of non-traditional passages that will promote interactive experiences which could be applied in their Teacher Cadet classrooms. The presenters will demonstrate the importance of how communication, collaboration, and prior knowledge determine outcomes while modeling how these skills are relevant for all learners. Come and enjoy the madhouse!

BLS, CPR, and AED…oh, my! What do they all mean? What would you do if there was a medical emergency in the classroom? Do you feel prepared? In this session, we will explore the basics of CPR, AED, and First Aid training. Participants will delve into a hands-on approach on how to act in emergency situations as well as learn how to get certified and utilize this same information to teach their own students. Knowledge is power, and this knowledge might even save a life!

The path to Teaching Fellows begins with the launch of the application in October and concludes with the statewide orientation in June. Knowing that Cadets often turn to you for advice, this session was created to provide an overview of the identification and award processes. This session is especially applicable for new Teacher Cadet Instructors, but all are invited! During our time together, the presenter will provide hints for navigating the application, discuss the regional interview day, describe the award process, including the differences between alternate lists and waiting lists, summarize the unique aspects of the programs at the 11 Teaching Fellows Institutions, and share information about orientation. The story of Anne Frank and her survival as a victim of the Holocaust, as documented in her diary, is a global one. The Anne Frank Center (AFC), on the campus of the University of South Carolina, brings to life the story of Anne Frank, who documented two years of hiding in German-occupied Amsterdam during World War II. In this session, Teacher Cadet instructors will be introduced to the AFC, learn about the Center’s mission, and find out how Teacher Cadet programs can become an integral part of the mission of standing up together against antisemitism, bigotry, and inequality wherever it may exist today. Come learn how your TC program can partner with the AFC on topics such as diversity, social justice, and service learning as well as the opportunity to partner with the AFC for training of Teacher Cadets to be able to participate as "tour guides" (teachers) for its Traveling Exhibit that will be sent to each school that participates in the training.

When we use micro-credentials as part of personalizing professional development, the proof is a part of the process. Teachers have grown SO much over the past two years as curriculum designers, facilitators, collaborators, and communicators, yet much of our professional learning still looks like it did twenty years ago. How might educators earn recognition and get credit for the learning they implement in the classrooms and offices every day? When we use micro-credentials as part of personalizing professional development, the proof is a part of the process. Participants in this session will learn more about how to earn micro-credentials and how to set up systems to support other educators to earn micro-credentials. This presentation will include suggestions from participants in the Effectiveness and Leadership Micro-credential Academy about how to integrate educator micro-credentials into your existing professional learning.
